Surprise and Delight | SheaBassador Launch Box 2019

Hello Passionista-

I am excited to share with you my review of my very first SheaBassador box. It’s been a few weeks since I received this box, I wanted to take my time to really use each product in my daily routine with washing and styleing my hair. I wish I was able to capture footage of my actully washing my hair with the products, but I recap the expiences in my review of each product below. Out of the 5 products in the Launch box I have purchased and used 3 of them before ( Coconut & Hibiscus, Coconut Oil Conditioner, and Jamician Castor Oil Shampoo). My favorite product in the box is the Miracle Styler Leave-in Conditioner. I have just about used this entire bottle up.

To see the unboxing blog for the Launch box, click here.

After washing my hair using the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo w/ Shea Butter, Peppermint & Apple Cider Vinegar and 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Conditioner, I decided to try this quick knot twist style. The twist out style lasted about 4 days before I had to re-do the style for a fresh appearance.

Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Shampoo w/ Mafura & Baobob Oils

This product is best used on extremely dry and brittle hair. I do not have dry and brittle hair but I still tried it. I received this product in a SheaBassador box.  It smells powdery fresh. The formula is really creamy, milky like so the pop top is the best form of packaging for this shampoo. I have used it for 2 wash days. I have found that it leaves a natural shine to your hair. I feel my curls got really hydrated during the wash process and were easy to comb through. Not much detangling needed.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo w/ Shea Butter, Peppermint & Apple Cider Vinegar

This product is for natural, chemically processed, or heat styled hair. I received this product in a SheaBassador box. Because I have tried this product before I had the conditioner at home. So when I washed my hair using this shampoo I used the conditioner as well. The shampoo contains lots of beneficial ingredients to help strengthen your hair. This is not a product I would use for every wash day. Honestly, I think overuse of this shampoo and conditioner can strip your hair of its natural healthy oils. So I plan to only use this shampoo when I have alot of product built out and need to really cleanse my scalp.

Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner w/ Silk Protein & Neem Oil

I received this product in a SheaBassador box. This is a product I have used before, I love how the Coconut & Hibiscus line moistures my hair and defines my curls. This conditioner is ideal for a wash n go styles. The formula is thick yet provides a lightweight hold to condition my natural curl pattern. I have never purchased the shampoo and conditioner for this product line before, only the curl enhancer smoothie, but now that I have tried the shampoo I think I will purchase it.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Conditioner w/ Coconut Milk & Acacia Senegal

I received this product in a SheaBassador box. I have honestly used almost all of this conditioner in a matter of a month. I’ve used it to condition my hair during the wash process as well as a styling product for my wash n go using the LOC method- using conditioner as the leave in.

Sugarcane Extract & Meadowfoam Seed Silicone Free Miracle Styler Leave – In Treatment w/ Marshmallow Root

I received this product in a SheaBassador box. This product has become my favorite. First off, I appreciate the packaging and spray top. It sprays a bit stringy instead of a wide spread. But I just spray the product in my hand then apply it to my hair and work in into small sections of my hair at a time. The formula is really creamy and not so watery, that allows you to evenly distribute product through the hair.

Stay tuned for more natural hair content and product reviews of products from my SheaBassador boxes.

World Natural Hair Show 2019

Hello Passionista

This past weekend was extremely eventful for me. I was given the opportunity to work with Camilla Rose Naturals as a Rosette brand ambassador during the World Natural Hair Show in Atlanta, GA.

Camille Rose is a natural hair care line of moisture-rich cleanser, conditioners and stylers. All products are uniquely blended with love and offer the tender, love and care you hair needs from a hair care product. I love that the products are naturally made and promotes a healthy lifestyle for hair and beauty. Camille Rose products can be purchased on the brand website and also found in stores like Target, Sally’s Beauty and CVS.

Working with the Camille Rose team and other Rosettes was just rewarding experience. I learned so much about the products and how they are made. I even got the chance to help mix up some deep conditioners with essentials oil made custom for customers as they shopped at the hair show. Some of the other Rosettes are blogger and YouTubers, like myself, so it was fun connecting with them and sharing stories and ideas.

I wish I was able to get more pictures, but I was hard at work mingling and talking to customers about the products and all things natural hair. I was able to share with customers my wash n’ go methods, the products I use and how things work for me. In return I learned a lot about treating and caring for natural hair just by having conversations with people as they shopped around in the booth.

Of course, I had to get some products for myself to try. Don’t worry I will be sharing the products that I picked with full reviews and content on how I use them on my hair within the next few weeks… So, make sure you are subscribed and get notifications for upcoming blogs. Also be sure to follow me on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook

DIY | How to make a Aloe Vera Hair Mask

Hello Passionista-

I’ve been all about treating and caring for my natural hair lately. On top of mastering my wash n’ go style, I have switched up my hair wash routine (updated hair wash blog coming soon). One step that I used to skip in my hair wash routine is a mask, but I recently started applying a hair mask after shampooing and conditioning.

I am going to teach you how to make your own hair mask using a Aloe Vera leaf. Aloe Vera can help with hair growth, dandruff, split ends, deep conditioning, and detangling. This specific mask will help with hair growth providing the proper nutrition and get rid hair problems.

What you’ll need:

Aloe vera leaf. (purchased the leaf from Sprouts)

Pure Olive Oil.

A blender.

Step 1: Cut the skin off.

Step 2: Mix Aloe Vera gel and 3 to 5 tablespoons of Olive Oil together in the blender

To apply to hair, I like to put the mask in a bowl and section my hand into small sections. Using my hands I apply the mask to each section of my hair. I tend to let the mask soak in my hair for 30 + minutes before washing out, with cold water.

Don’t throw the skin away!!!!!! You can use it on your skin.

Aloe Vera can be used to clear up your skin and keep it healthy. So use the skin from the aloe vera leaf and rub it all over your body.

SheaBassador 2019 | 1st Unboxing

Hey Passionista-

Have you heard the GOOD News?

I’m a 2019 #SheaBassadoor !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m so excited and honored for this opportunity. This is my 1st major ambassador partnership with a brand. It’s amazing because Shea Moisture is a brand that I’ve been using for years. I have some Shea Moisture faves and some not so faves. This journey is going to be so amazing to receive products that I can trust, use, review and share with you.

How it Works?

Shea Moisture will send me 8 to 10 product boxes throughout the year. Each box will be filled with products for me to share tutorials, unboxings, display of products, using and sharing the product. So be sure to stick around for all the great new content I will have to share with you.

I love when my readers get involved and send me questions and comments or just share how you like or don’t like the products I review. If you’re not already, follow me on Instagram and Twitter so you can chat with me.

Here’s my first unboxing clip ….. IGTV

Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo

Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Shampoo

Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Conditioner

Sugarcane Extract & Meadowfoam Seed Silicone-Free Miracle Styler Leave-In Treatment

Hair Brush

I am impressed with the packaging. I knew the package was being mailed to me but I didn’t know what to expect. I love that the packaging is branded and has lots of pictures and educational content about the ingredients of the products. I am shocked about how many full sized products I received. I was thinking I might receive one or two full size products and some sample sized products. So this package exceeded my expectations.

I’ve purchased the Strengthen & Restore product line and Curl & Shine product line of Shea Mositure several times. In the past I felt like the Strengthen & Restore shampoo and conditioner were stripping my hair of its natural oils and causing my curl pattern to look stringy, but now that I’ve gotten my curl pattern together (NO HEAT for 1 year) I am willing to try this line again to see if it was indeed the formula or just my damaged hair. I use the Curl & Shine leave in conditioner and curl creme often. When I first started using it I thought it left my hair to greasy and heavy without volume. Once I started using the L-O-C method for a wash n’ go style, now the Curl & Shine Curl Creme is a essential need for my hair routine.

My favorite product from this box… so far, has been the Sugarcane Extract & Meadowfoam Seed Silicone-Free Miracle Styler Leave-In Treatment. I’ve never purchased this product or seen it in stores before, but I love a good leave in product that will help refresh my wash n’ go on a day to day basis.

It helps with detangling and soften curls again. It also nourishes and adds shine to my curls for a refreshed look eliminating over night frizz for a fluffy full head of curls.

What’s you favorite Shea Moisture product?

Hair | Rice Water for Natural Hair Update

Hi Passionista-

Okay, so! I have another rice water update. I’ve used rice water about 3 times now and I can say I have seen results.

3 Weeks of dirty hair with product build up

All the shedding from washing & detangling

How I make my Rice Water

I use regular store brand white rice. I pour about 2 cups of rice into a strainer and rinse the rice with water, to get off the factory dust off of it. Then, I use a Mason Jar (pint size) and fill the bottom with rice. Next, I fill the jar with water. To mask the horrible smell rice water can produce, I use essential oil. This time I used Jojoba & Sweet Almond Oil. Lastly, seal the lid on the jar tightly, letting it soak for at least 24 hours.

One thing I hate about washing my hair is the shedding. Normally, I will have large clumps of hair all over my shower, shrink and stuck in my brush after washing and detangle my hair. It gives me anxiety, thinking about how much of my hair is falling out and my drains getting clogged with clumps of hair, etc. But the instant result of using rice water is LESS SHEDDING.

After washing, this is what my hair looks like with no product in it …

I have not been tracking my hair length to see if it is growing. But I want to start so here are my first length check photos

For this wash day, I used the OGX Nourishing coconut milk shampoo and condition, and the Hask Keratin Protein Smoothing Deep Conditioner

If you have tired Rice Water before share your thoughts and opinions with me. If you are think about trying rice water, ask me questions.

Influenster Vox Box Review

Hello Passionista,

Today, I have a special #curltreat to share with you. I received another Vox Box from Influenster, that is all about CURLS and treating yourself to healthy styles.

What’s in the box?

This Vox Box includes Garnier Fructis Curl Treat Leave- in stylers: Hydrating Butter and Defining Soothie.

Y’all know I love a good hair product and these styler came just in time for the holidays. I decided to do a flexi rod set using both the Hydrating butter and Defining smoothie. I normally don’t purchase Garnier Fructis products for my hair because honestly I didn’t think it was a brand for ethnic natural hair. Now that I’ve tried these curl treats I will be purchasing these products and exploring what other good styling products Garnier Fructis has to offer my thick natural curls.

Both the Hydrating Butter and Defining Soothie formulas are thick and feels very rich. You only need to apply a little bit to each section of hair.

When styling my hair with the flexi rods, I wet my hair with a spray bottle of warm water, them added the Hydrating Butter from root to ends. Before starting to roll each section of hair with the flexi rod, I used my finger to rub the Defining smoothie and a small amount of curl gel to the ends. Once my entire head was rolled and twisted in the flexi rod, I let it air dry over night then sat under the hair drier the next morning for 20 mins (just to make sure my roots were completely dry)

Natural Hair Tip: Make sure your hair is COMPLETELY dry when doing twist out, rod or roller set before untwist or unrolling. It makes a huge different in the final look and how long it will last.

I am amazed at the finished look of this flexi rod protective style. Like I said, I never thought Garnier Frutis products were for my type of hair. There advertisements always have white women with straight hair, I don’t fit that audience so I over look the brand. I would like to see more women of color with different types and styles of hair in their advertisements.

ENTIRE LOOK FOR THE EVENING

BLOGMAS Day 17 | Winter Hair Routine + Rice Water

Hello Passionista,

Now that it is Winter, I have changed up my hair wash routine a little bit. I’ve been seeing all the hype about rice water and the benefits it has on your hair. I am always looking for good products and natural remedies to do to my hair so I’ve decided to join in on the  rice water trend.

Prepping Rice Water

After watching a few youtube tutorials and scrolling through blogs on Pinterest , I decided to do a rice water deep conditioner before my wash routine. You can also do a rice water rinse, which I plan on trying on the next wash day. To deep condition with rice water, I took some plain rice from the pantry and rinsed it with cold water. Then I took a glass jar and filled the bottom with the clean rice and added water. I closed the lid on the jar and let it sit for about 12 hours. I read that the longer you let the rice water sit the better. But what I was not prepared for is the SMELL. This shit smells horrible. I can’t even explain the smell. It’s legit horrible. I was almost about to throw it away and not use it. But I started reading comments that explained rice water stinks. So I went with it.

I drained the rice from the rice water and put the water in a spray bottle. I sectioned my hair in small parts, and sprayed each part from root to ends. Then, I put a plastic shower cap over my head and let it sit for over an hour.

Washing my Hair with Love  Beauty and Planet Shampoo & Conditioner

Coconut water is known as a lightweight hydrator, with the mix of the mimosa flower you get great volume in result.

Love Beauty and Plant is a fairly new brand to the market. I think I first seen it on shelf in Target. When I saw the packaging I was like, ” This cute I want to try it” but it wasn’t in the “ethic” (black girl hair) haircare section. So I thought it may not be a product for my type of hair. I wasn’t in the mood to buy some shampoo and conditioner that I wasn’t sure about —so I stuck to my regular Cantu products.  But to my surprise, I received samples of the Coconut water & mimosa flower shampoo and conditioner in my Target Beauty Box. Gladly, I tried it and Loved it! It smells amazing and left my hair feeling soft and easy to comb out. I didn’t have to do much detangling but I think that’s also a result of the rice water.

My Winter Hair Wash Routine

Step 1: Deep Condition with Rice Water

Step 2: Rinse Rice Water out with cold water

Step 3: Condition Hair + Rinse

Step 4: Shampoo Hair + Rinse

Step 4: 1- Minute hair mask + rinse

After washing my hair, I always comb it out and 2 string twist it (if I’m not doing a specific style). Here is what I have been using to style my hair lately…

Cantu Natural Hair Wave Whip Curling Mousse

Palmer’s Coconut Oil Strong Roots Spray

Dark and Lovely Naturale Anti- Shrinkage Clumping Curl Creme Gel

Yes To Shampoo &; Conditioner | Use & Review

Hello Passionista!!!

So, I’m not the type to use the same shampoo and conditioner every time I wash my hair. I like to try different products and brands. So I want to share my experience with Yes To shampoo and conditioner detoxifying & deep cleaning / ultra moisturizing charcoal.

Disclaimer: My thoughts and opinions are strictly my own based from my usage experience. I have only used these products one time.

Where to buy: Target ($7.99 each)

Yes To charcoal detoxifying & deep cleaning shampoo

Yes To charcoal detoxifying & ultra- moisturizing conditioner

Pros:

  • This is really a deep cleaning shampoo, it’s great for clean hair with product build up
  • The formula is creamy. For some reason I thought the formula would be thicker than the average shampoo but it’s not.

Cons:

  • It really strips your hair of everything. A hair mask / treatment is needed after use.
  • The conditioner is hard to wash out of thick hair. The color helps determine if it’s all washed out or not

Final Thoughts: this is not a product I would use often cause I wash my hair on a weekly basis. But I feel this is a perfect product duo for when I have lots of product build up from gels and creams in my hair. I plan on keeping these products close by for those special occasions.

Before wash:

After Shampoo and Conditioner (set in hair for 1hour +):

After washing the conditioner out, I did restore my curls with coconut oil.

Have you tried this shampoo and conditioner ? If so, tell me what you thought of it. What other Yes To products should I try ?
