I brought the new year in with a cold and STILL when out for NYE. Which did not help my cold situation. A week later, I finally feel like myself again. My nose is no longer red and stressed out. I’m no longer coughing with a runny nose. I FEEL BETTER, thank God!
While I was sick, I went without washing my hair or applying any mask to my face. I wasn’t in the mood to and I didn’t think it was a good idea to do while sick. So, now that I am better it is time to show my skin and hair some tender, love and care. Today, I am going to share with you how to make a refreshing sheet mask for stressed skin.
Using a pint sized mason jar (or gals jar), fill the jar half way with water. Add in the sliced cucumbers, apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. Sometimes, I measure out a tablespoon of each (apple cider vinegar and lemon juice) or sometimes I just pour whatever in. Only thing left to do is, LET IT SIT. You can put it in the refrigerator or leave it out on the counter. I like to let mine sit for half a day before using.
When you’re ready to make the mask, drain the cucumber slices from the solution. Leave the solution in the glass jar. You can store any excessive solution for up to 5-7 days.
The perfect thing about the compressed facial mask is all you have to do is open it and drop it into the solution. It expands on its own.
One of my favorite things to do to my face is using a sheet mask. I mostly use hydrating and detoxifying sheet masks at least once a week. Sheet masks are a convenient way to treat your skin to something refreshing. All you have to do is open the package, lay the mask over your face and wait at least 15 minutes before removing it. The clean up progress is so easy, all you have to do is throw away the packaging and sheet mask when done. These masks are generally inexpensive and favorite brands to use are Miss Spa, Yes To, and Sephora Brand.
Although sheet mask are not expensive I found a way to make them myself. I am a DIY Belle at heart and when I realized there were simple ways to make my own sheet masks, I couldn’t help myself.
In this blog, I will be sharing with you step by step how to make your own sheet mask using natural face cotton compressed facial mask, purchased from Amazon.
Honey n’ Oaks Nourishing Mask
1 tablespoon of Honey
1/2 cup of Plain Oaks
2 cup Hot water
Bowl and Strainer
Compressed sheet mask tablet
This mask is meant to nourish normal to dry skin. Honey is a natural ingredient that will moisturize the skin. Oaks contains natural anti-inflammatory properties to help treat and prevent rashes and irratated skin. Together the 2 natural ingredients will nourish and hydrate your normal to dry skin for beautiful health skin.
Heat 1 cups of water (about 250 degrees) and pour in a mixing bowl
Add 1 tablespoon of honey and 1/2 cup of plain oaks to the hot water
Gentle stir twice and let mixture brew for 5 minutes
Use strainer to drain the oats (you may discard oats after draining)
Leave on face for at least 20 minutes then remove from face and discard sheet mask
Tip: Use it cold or warm.
You can repeat 2-3 times a week, as needed to hydrate and soothe your skin. The remaining solution of this mask can be stored up to 3 months in a cool, dry place. Be sure to keep the jar tightly sealed.
Bonus: You can add a few drops of essential oils if you desire.

I love going to the spa. I can only afford one maybe two full service spa visits a year, but I love getting facials. A few weeks ago I stumbled upon the Natural Body Spa and Shop opening in Alpharetta on my lunch break. I was curious about the store so I stopped and went in for a lot. As I entered the atmosphere was so peaceful and everyone greeted me with a smile. It felt like a piece of heaven. The spa and shop was newly opened and the staff invited me back for the Grand Opening event.
The grand opening event was extremely fun. I think I was one of the last guest to leave. For the event the Spa and Shop offered a few FREE services. I felt like royalty. I received a FREE eyebrow and lip wax, chair massage, and facial. YOU CAN NOT BEAT THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My eyebrow and lip wax was a great experience. Gisell was really sweet and gentle. She talked to me during the entire process, telling me what she was using and why or what the benefits of it. I’m a talkative person, so I really appreciate the small talk during the service. Gisell really created an inviting and peaceful environment for the lip and eyebrow wax service. I plan on going back next month for a wax refresh.
The facial service was so gentle and relaxing. Peep the before and after pictures (above) from the Retinol Plus Peel facial. I’ve been had this facial before and I was excited to try it for the first time. The Skin ReMEDI Esthetician for this service was extremely nice. She talked me through everything she used and did to my face. I like to know the benefits and effects of the ingredients and products I put on my body, especially my face. This facial really gave my face a natural glow. My skin felt so hydrated and gentle. I expected my skin to peel over the next few days after this service. To my surprise I did not experience and peeling or irratations after the service. No breakouts, nothing. Just easy, breezy, beautiful glowing skin.
I recommend Natural Body Spa and Shop to EVERYONE…. There have several locations (in Bulkhead- GA, Alpharetta- GA, Decatur- GA, Marietta- GA, Smyrna-GA, Snellville-GA, Chattanooga- TN, and Jacksonville -FL).
Thank you to Jenn Cobbs, Gisell and all the staff for creating an inviting atmosphere and a successful event. I will be back for more bath burst and bombs and spa services.
We live in a world that overlooks the beauty behind being a women and the female body. It’s sad but true. I believe there is a generational divide in the appreciation of women and their bodies… everything from our hair and outer beauty to our well being and health. Every since I can remember I question by products like pads and tampons were on market to be conventionally sold in stores but birth control is free. I’m pretty sure I can go into a deep debate with just about anyone who feels like women should have to buy pads and tampons.
On top of that fact that we have to purchase these items, companies started using thing like pesticides, chlorine, and fragrances to manufacturer products we need as women. What type of foolishness is this? For years, I didn’t know what was in the products I used for my monthly. I never thought to ask. My parents gave me “the talk” told me what to do and things went from there. It was until the Tiffany Haddish Breakfast Club interview, “where she told her experience with Toxic Shock Syndrome, that I became curious in what products like pads and tampons were made up of. To my surprise it was awful !!!! So many thoughts raised in my head… “How could a company honestly sell this stuff to women knowing what is in it? How could the government allow this? How many years has this been going on?”
Finally one day in Target, I cam across the This is L. product line. The packaging is what drew my attention to the product. I like how clean and chic the packaging of the products look. My favorite is the clear pale that the tampons come in. I like to reuse them to store other stuff. I currently have like 2 of them under my bathroom sink, full of hair rollers and accessories. I was honestly surprised to see organic female products on shelf in a mass retail store like Target, for the same price as the other brands. My thoughts then were, ” if organic products can be manufacturer and sold at the same price point why add all the pesticides, chlorine and dyes in the first place?” It honestly blow my mind. But I was excited to try the organic pads and tampons. I honestly, thought the products were too good to be true. For the same price as Always and Kotex brand I will try.
Some of my concerns were about comfort and leaks. So the first time I tried the products I used them over a weekend that I was mainly at home. I didn’t want to be out and have any accidents in public. But to my surprise there was nothing to worry about. The tampons felt like tampons. The pads felt like pads. The panty liners felt like panty liners. I was amazed and proud.
I buy organic pads and tampons and I’m not going back to those old harmful products. Click here to learn more about This is L. Inc. and purchase products online, also sold in Target.
Thought I’d share some of my latest favorites, what you crushin on?
Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel
First things first … I love that is product is 100% all natural. I’m not really natural crazy when it come to products but this is a product I put on my face. And daily! Also I love that is product is fragrance free. Although it has that witch hazel scent, there is no perfumes added to alter the natural scent. I wish I could buy this in bulk (larger than 16oz) with like a little refill bottle or something. But the formula is great. I have been using this product for a little over a year, just to cleanse my face after every shower. I use cotton pads from the dollar tree to wipe my face, then I proceed to a mask or scrub.
Yes To Coconut Ultra Hydrating Paper Mask
I have a sweet thing for sheet mask. I must say I enjoy them more than spread a masks across my face and standing over a sink to wash it off. Yeah, I’m a little lazy. But that’s why someone started marketing sheet mask. I use them at least 2 times a week. Yes To sheet masks are always so soft. There literally made of cotton, which cause me to leave it on until it dries. Sometime! Yes To has the coolest packaging graphics. Yes To Coconut products really hydrates my skin and enhance my glow.
Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel with SPF 15
This has been my life line since summer. Every morning after washing my face, I moisturize with this. I did not understand how much a little SPF helps. Honey! My skin tone has been even all year… I never happens. This product is my best friend. I love the the tap is bigger enough for the tube to stand up on the counter and small enough to carry around. But it was kind expensive so I hope this bottle last me a while.
Aveeno Active Naturals Smart Essentials Daily Detoxifying Scrub
I have had this product for at least a year. Theres’s no expiration date on the product so I hope thats okay. Basically I use this product the few days before and after getting a wax. Its a gentle exfoilator that feels good. Time to go buy another!
Lush Bath Bomb- Butterball
My absolutely favorite. An colleauge put me on to Lush and it changed my life. The butterball has been my favorite from the every beginning. I nice hot soak not bubbles, just hot water and oils. Such amazing self care.
This liquid lipstick in the color wannabe by Tarte is one of my favorites for fall. Wannabe is the perfect universal dark nude for just about every type of outfit. It’s something about breezy and cold weather with a cardigan and dark lip stick that makes me feel fancy. I love how long it liquid formula lasts. I only had to apply once for the entire work day.
When using a lip pencil, I recommend matching Mac lip pencil in the color plum.
This week has been awesome. On Sunday, I met up with friends to spend some chill time in the park. The weather was nice, sun was shinning, and we needed some girl chat.
I love a good park picnic set up. So on short notice I gathered my blanket, cards games, snacks and wine for our little park adventure. The weather was not too hot or too cold, allowing us to enjoy the park for about five hours out in the sun. (Well under a tree really)
Since this was a outside event and I sweat so easily, I made it a fresh face SUNDAY. But you know I can’t go without lipstick.
This week I have fallen in love with the MAC Matte Lipstick in the color whirl, all over again. I purchased this lipstick last fall and with the seasons changing and getting new lipsticks it has just been siting on my lipstick rack. But look at it on me. It is time I bring this whirl color out of retirement and start rocking it again.
I must admit, I am a girlie girl and I love going to the nail salon to get my nails done, feet scrubbed, and face waxed. But I’ve learned all that can add it. I noticed every 2 two weeks I was spending $70 + multiples tips in the nail salon. FOR WHAT? I can tell I’m growing into a full adult, because I cannot validate spending that much money twice a week. I’ve learned to cut back on my services. Now I only go to the nail salon once a month for a pedicure and eyebrow wax. Let’s be honest, a girl can’t be out here letting her feet rough up. As for my nails, I like to keep them clean and simple. For special occasions I will paint them myself now.
This is the Charcoal infused nail polish by Nailmedic in the color Volcanic Ash. I love this as a fall color.
This was easy to apply and fast drying – even with 3 coats. It doesn’t have the harsh nail polish smell- which I can appreciate.
I received this samples in a previous ipsy bag (before I canceled my subscription). I will definitely be using this color throughout the fall and winter.
I can’t wait to try some new holiday nail art this season. I’ll be use to do a DIY nail art post .
