Girl’s Spa Night with Make It Classy DIY Beauty

Hello Passionista!

Have you ever just needed a at home spa night? Well, I’m about to put you on to something that will change your beauty routines and turn up your self care practices.

Make It Classy delivers plant-based ingredients and step-by-step instructions needed to craft
your own chemical-free DIY beauty creations. Think of it like Hello Fresh, except it is a beauty box. The best thing about these kits is that you learn how to make your very own clean beauty products. Most of the kits makes enough product for you to use the product more than once. You also have a recipe card to keep and remake your beauty product over and over again with the purchase of the ingredients needed.

I hosted a spa night for a couples of girlfriends to enjoy. We each picked a Make It Classy kit that we wanted to make. As we sipped on Rose and talked about our week, we made some clean beauty products to care for our skin and hair. We decided to each do a clay mask from the Loyal Leah DIY Kit to deep condition with Rhassoul clay and moisturize our face.

For our spa night we made the following beauty products.

Majestic Maya – DIY Body Scrub. Each kit makes one 8oz body scrub

Loyal Leah – DIY Clay Hair + Face Mask. Each kits makes 1 hair mask or 15+ face masks.

Herbal Ebony – DIY Herbal Hair Rinse. Each kit makes 2 bottles of hair rinse.

I’ve been in love with the Make It Classy brand since I discovered them nearly a year ago. So far, I have made about 4 different kits from the brand. I love their branding and how everything is made to create a simple yet satisfying experience for the user. My favorite kit is the Rose Water toner kit. Rose water is a beauty jewel that I always wanted to try to make myself. But, I was skeptical about using store bought roses to make a beauty product because of all the peptides put on flowers through the manufacturing and distribution process. When I discover Make It Classy and the DIY Lavender Rose Water kit, I knew I would have to try it. Just to my expectation it was simple to make once you have the right ingredients.

How it works

1. Choose your DIY beauty box based on the recipe you’d like to create.

2. Add to cart and checkout

3. You’ll receive your box in the mail along with a recipe card and ingredients to create that DIY beauty product.

Thank you Make It Classy for sponsoring this blog post. Book a party and host your next girl’s night with a at home spa twist.

Lotus Essentials Review | Natural Hair

Hello Passionista!

Once a year I blow dry my hair and wear wand curls or something of blow dried hair style. So during the entire holiday season I did not wash my hair. I blow dried it maybe a week before Christmas and wore wand curls and flexi rod sets until after the new year. On New Year’s Day I was to excite to wash and deep condition my hair. I’m the happiest when I rock my natural curls!

To condition and style my hair, I used some new products sent to me by Lotus Essentials. Lotus Essentials is a multi-use hair and skincare company that caters to those who want healthier and hydrated hair and skin.

My First Impression

I am big on cute packaging and at first glance I was not impressed with the Lotus Essentials brand packaging. Also, the products were not completely full when I received them. So, at first glance I was not impressed by the presentation and branding. But I was interested in trying the products.

Aloe Conditioner for Hair and Skin Review

The Aloe Conditioner can be used as a deep conditioner or as a co wash. The first time I used the product I used it as a deep conditioner. I can be a little heavy on the product when it comes to applying it to my hair. So I thought I was going to end up using the whole bottle on the first time using it. But I actually only ended up only using about half the bottle. Which was great but later in the week, I used it as a co-wash to remove some product build up and re-twist my hair for refreshed curls. I used less product when co-washing my hair because I only focused on cleaning my scalp. I still have enough product left to do one more co -wash.

Rose Milk Review

The Rose Milk provided my twist out with the bounce back it needed. Before washing my hair was really dry and my end looked harshly brittle from applying heat. So the conditioner and rose milk help restore with moisture. I used the rose milk in place of a curl creme to 2 strand twist my hair. The rose milk made the detangling and twisting process easy. Next wash day I want to try using the rose milk to do my wash n’ go styling.

These products are meant to work on hair and skin. I only tried them on my hair. I have sensitive skin and I don’t know about using them on my face. For this review only reflects my hair wash day experience.

SheaBassador | The Final Box and Gifts

Hello Passionista!

Well, the time has come… the end of the SheaBassador program. I received my last box right before christmas. I’m so grateful I had this opportunity and hope for more great brand ambassador programs with Shea Moisture and other brands this year.

Because this was the last package of the year, they actually sent me 2 boxes. One was this month’s featured products and the other was a gift of random product received in previous packages. So I had the chance to stock up on some of my favorites.

Today, I decided I wanted to pamper myself and have a self care day. This is the first time this year (2020) I have actually did any self care activities. Just my luck, I have some new favorite skincare products this month’s Shea Moisture box to enjoy during my self care day.

What’s in the Box?

Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Leave- In Conditioner

This is not my favorite leave in conditioner. But I do like that the formula is not to thick and heavy on your hair. I can’t pin point exactly what I don’t like about this conditioner. I just know it make my hair feel a way that I don’t like after washing it out. It’s not a horrible leave in conditioner but just not the one for m

Manuka Honey & Yogurt Skin renewal Recipe Body Yogurt Moisturizer

This body yogurt smells so heavenly to me. I like using it after I shave and exfoliate my skin. I feel like it really helps renew my skin with hella moisture. The formula is thick but not hard to rub in. You don’t need a lot of the product, just apply a little to each part of your body and rub it swiftly. Also, I appreciate the form of packaging this product has, very accessible.

Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil & Witch Hazel Skin Rescue Moisturizer

This is the first product I have used with hemp seed oil in it. I love that the formula also contains witch hazel. It doesn’t really have a smell. I wish it had some type of scent to it. It feels very light on the skin and gives me a restored glow.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Shimmering Body Lotion

I’m not a big fan of body lotion. I prefer body oils or body butters. But I can’t stay away from the 100% virgin coconut oil scent. This product line smells amazing to me. I think this is a summer time body product. But right now I have it sitting on my desk and I used it to moisture my hands after washing them. I love to just inhale the scent after applying this product cause it smells so good.

Sugarcane Extract & Meadowfoam Seed Silicone free miracle Styler Leave in Treatment

I received this product 3 times now. The first one was a sample size, then I got a full sized one and now I have another one. Y’all know this is my favorite leave in treatment. I highly recommend this product.

Coconut & Hibiscus Illuminating Hand & Body Scrub

This is my first time using this body scrub… and baby !!!! it smells sooooo heavenly. I like to use a body scrub in the shower once a week to exfoliate my skin. Today was my first time using it and I scrubbed my body twice. The product not only smells good but it also feels really good on the skin.

Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie

This is a great product. But it is hella greasy. Luckily it’s not heavy on the hair, but it’s super greasy. I think the coconut and hibiscus line of hair products are all greasy. And maybe my texture of hair doesn’t hold or need the amount of moisture it provides. I do like my curl results when I use this product, I just don’t like the greasy stains left on my head rest and pillows. LOL

These are some more products that I received in previous boxes:

Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Shampoo

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Face Lotion

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Glow Priming Moisturizer

Coconut & Cactus Water Pick Me Up Lite Masque

Coconut & Cactus Water Quench & Fresh Bar Soap

Tell me, what’s your favorite Shea Moisture product?

Wine Me Down | Winc

Happy 2020, Passionista!

I don’t know about y’all but I’m finding it hard to get back into my daily routine after this holiday season. I don’t know what it is but by 3pm everyday I am fighting to stay awake. It’s like my energy is just completely drained mid-afternoon. So around 5 or 6pm I’m ready to wine down and call it a night. My new subscription wine box has come in handy with helping me wine down from a long exhausting day of adulting.

Winc is a wine delivery service that allows you to select 4 of your favorite types of wine and ships it to you for only $39 + complimentary shipping.

How it works?

Visit Winc.com to take the palette profile 6 question quiz. You will be given recommendations specifically to match your palette. Then, you are able to shop and select 4 bottles of wine to be shipped to you with complimentary shipping.

My 1st box shipped directly to my front door within a week of ordering. I love a Red Blend just as much as I love a Rose. Which is why I selected a red blend, a white blend, a Rose, and a Chardonnay to have a variety to fit any mood I may be in each day.

2018 Passarola White Blend

Tell me, What’s your favorite type of wine?

Blogmas Day 25 | Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas Passionista!

First and foremost, I want to say I MADE IT… I SURVIVED!!! I successfully completed Blogmas 2019. I’ve enjoyed this journey and I’m super proud of myself.

My last Shea Moisture box came right in time for Christmas and as well as a random box of goodies. I think this is my last box of 2019 from Shea Moisture. I’ve really enjoyed this journey of being a Sheabassador and I hope I can continue to work with the brand in the future.

Blogmas Day 24 | The Season of Caring

Hello Passionista-

I ran cross this meme last month about putting together care packages for homeless women. I thought it was a great idea. So I asked my family to bring toiletries and female hygiene items to dinner on thanksgiving. We packaged these purses and cosmetics bags full with products for females.

I’m happy to say we put together over 25 packages and put them in our cars to hand out when we see someone in need.

Blogmas Day 23 | Family Time for the Soul

Hello Passionista-

I love a good cabin trip and this weekend I got to spend some quality time in the cabins with my loved ones.

We stayed at the top of the mountain in Gatlinburg, TN. The view was amazing and a good time was had. I wish I would have gotten more pictures but I was truly enjoying the quality time with family.

Blogmas Day 21 | Q & A

Hello Passionista!

A few days ago I put up and Q&A box on my IG story. So I’m going to answer those questions in today’s blog.

What hosting site do you use for your blog?

I use WordPress.

What are your limits on what you are willing and not willing to share on your blog?

I’m willing to post anything about natural hair, beauty and skincare, and DIY projects I try. I have decided to start sharing some lifestyle content.

How do you handle your work life balance?

What work life balance 😂😩 I’m learning how to disconnect from work at a certain time but it’s super hard.

Do your friends support your business and blog?

Yes! My friends support my event planning business and my blog. They are not my ideal clients so I don’t expect them to engage as if I’m marketing to them. But they show up to events, repost my stuff and share my stuff with others and I’m humbly grateful.

How do you remain so positive about everything?

I glad you think I’m always positive. But, honestly I have my daily battles with trying to stay positive. I have a few motivational podcasts or YouTube clips I can listen to much I need a mini pick me up.

What are some things you want to improve on in 2020?

I want to work on unplugging from work and blogging and taking more time to actually enjoy the moment.

How did you get your start with blogging?

I made up my mind that I wanted to blog in 2014 . So I started doing some research about how to start. Then in 2015 I launched my online baby. It took my a while to find a routine. But, almost 4 years later here we are!!!

What is the most rewarding part of owning your own business?

I make all the decisions. I’m the BOSS !!!!

What is the most frustrating thing about blogging and entrepreneurship?

The most frustrating thing for me is time management. Deciding how much time to spend on my blog vs. my business gets so complicated.

What is your absolute favorite product?

This is a really hard question. I don’t have just one favorite product. My favorites change monthly, honestly. Right now I’m loving the Olay Vitamin Serum Stick.

How you keep your teeth so white?

Good ol’ Crest and floss 😁

How do I create a link tree?

I think you just go to the link tree website and connect it to your social media. Then you can add all your links on the website and put the link tree link in your bio.

How do you stay on top of the different blogging events? Like Essence and such?

I’m really bad at doing this so there a lot of event that I want to cover but end up not doing them. But for the last few you’ve seen on my page I’ve done the day of or after the event.

Blogmas Day 20| Goals for 2020

Hello Passionista!

Can you believe we are 12 days away from this new year? It really seems like this year has flew by so quickly. But, I’m excited for what 2020 has to offer.

New Goals. New Projects. New Money. New Challenges. New Prayers. New Growth. New Blessings. All of that!!!

This year I experienced a lot of major changes in my life. It has taken me some time to get used to my new situations. One thing that I’ve learned is that I have to get used to being uncomfortable to evolve in life. When it comes to my professional life, love life, and relationships with other people it’s important to understand that things change. Life goes on and everyday is not the same, so every situation is not going to stay the same.

I had to be real with myself and admit I put too much pressure on myself with setting goals this year. I made about 10 goals that I wanted to achieve this year between my personal life, my professional life and my blogging lifestyle. And a few months ago I broke down, which made me realize I wasn’t living. I was working everyday from start to finish to achieve he goals I had set for myself in order to feel accomplished. The feeling of being accomplished doesn’t last long for me. So day after day ever aspect of my life was a piece of work. I was such a HOT MESS!!!

Moving forward, I’m working on living in the moment and enjoying everyday I’m blessed to still be on this earth. Blogging is a major part of my life and my vision for how I want this blog to take off is huge. So don’t look for me to stop or slow down anytime soon. Sis, I’m inspired!

For 2020 I am only setting 3 goals to focus on when it comes to my brand in the making (The Passionista x PassionLocked):

Goal #1: Establish a mailing list and create a monthly newsletter.

This is something I should have been started doing but just haven’t. Honestly for a long time I felt like no on read my blogs or even visited my website 🙄 lol. But this year I really saw growth in my blog and a deal of support from my viewers. So I guess that makes me confident enough to start a mailing list. A monthly newsletter will help me engage more intimately with my subscribers and offer exclusive content.

Goal #2: Pre-plan content for weekly post using a content calendar.

This blogmas is the first time I have successful created a content calendar and followed it to create content to post (so far). I’ve attempted in the past and wasn’t consistent. I plan to be more intentional about the content I’m creating.

Goal #3: Work with 5 brands for paid influencer campaigns.

This year I wanted to work with brands and I made a goal to do so. I successfully worked with 6 brands this year. Now I want to elevate to more paid campaigns and sponsorships.

Blogmas Day 22 | 2019 Top 50 Songs

Hello Passionista!

I was creating a top 50 playlist on my own. Then Apple Music graced me with a replay 2019 playlist. When I first listened to it I was like wtf do I be listening to. But I noticed those are the song on my shuffle repeatedly.

Check out my Top 50 of 2019.
