Blogmas Day 3| Updated Wash Day Routine

Hello Passionistas!

Many of you know I have been using rice water in my hair wash routine for the past year. Jazz Mary on YouTube actually inspired me to try rice water. I have seen growth in my hair over the past 11 months but the growth did not come as quick as I thought it would with using the rice water. One thing I can say rice water is good for is shedding. My hair sheds a lot but when I use rice water I notice that I have less shedding during the wash and detangling process. For months now I have continued to use the rice water for that reason alone. But I think I have gotten to the point where I am over the rice water trend. LOL! Don’t get me wrong, I am not discouraging anyone from using or trying rice water, it’s just not for me anymore.

Check out my previous rice water blogs:

Rice Water for Natural Hair Update

Winter Hair Wash Routine + Rice Water

Here is my hair when I first started using rice water (left picture) and currently (right):

I often switch up my hair wash routine based on the growth of my hair. As my hair gets longer and thicker I have to switch up how I treat and style my curls. Here is how I currently wash my hair without rice water:

First, wet hair and apply shampoo focusing on cleanse my scalp. Then rinse with warm water.

Second, apply conditioner and use a wide tooth comb to detangle my curls. Then rinse with warm water.

Third, apply deep conditioner and part hair in four sections of twist. Place a shower cap over hair and let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with cold water.

Lastly, apply leave in conditioner and style accordingly.

Blogmas Day 2 |Favorite Things About Winter

Movie Days

I cherish when I have a day I can lay around the house in a oversized shirt and cozy socks and watch movies all day. I will put my phone on DND and watch movies back to back to back, or catch up on a series I haven’t watched in a while. My favorite christmas movies to watch every year is This Christmas and Best Man Holiday.

The best thing in the world is being around the loves you love with all your heart.

Blogmas Day 1 | Happy Blogmas

Hello Passionista!

Today is 1st day of Blogmas.

This month, I will be gracing you with 25 (including this one) amazing blogmas posts in celebration of my favorite time of year. Let’s Recap last year…

Last year, I successfully completed blogmas and was proud of the content and blogging routine I developed. Here are a few tips to guide any blogger through this month:

#1 Create a content calendar.

From Unsplash @giulia_bertelli

I used Canva to create my content calendar. It has been the best resource for helping me prepare content for blogmas.

#2 Jot down all your ideas for each post.

From Unsplash @demacinnes

I tend to come up with ideas and quickly forget them. So, I use the notes and voice record apps on my phone to keep my ideas safe from my forgetful mind.

#3 Set time to create and write.

From Unsplash @arnellhasanovic

I have to schedule time on my google calendar to sit down and actually write content. Then, I have to write a list of photos and video content I need for each blog post and prioritize the list.

#4 Schedule your posts at least a week in advance.

My goal for blogmas is NOT to stress myself out with daily post. So, I have social media post and blog post pre-scheduled. In a perfect world, I would start blogmas with all post scheduled but in reality I am starting with Days 1 through 7 scheduled. Honestly this is a great head start for me. So each week I will be prepping for the next week.

#5 Engage with your audience.

I struggle with engagment sometimes. I feel like I put out content that no one looks at most of the time. But, I have started to challenge myself to ask questions in a blog post or social media post to start a conversation with my followers. This will help improve my writing and help me engage with my audience.

For all my bloggers and bloggers reading this good luck! If you haven’t started it’s not to late but you should start right now. I want to see your content to. If you have a post you’d like me to check out tag me or post the link below.

Tell me, what are you looking forward to seeing from Passion Locked this blogmas?

SheaBassador | Clarify & Hydrate Box

Hello Passionista!

Shea Moisture has out done themselves with the latest box sent to me. I was so excited to receive a box of all skincare products. I’ve switched out the products I use for everyday skincare routine to incorporate some of these products and my skin feels and looks better than ever.

Here a glance at what was in this months box, just incase you missed my unboxing video on IGTV.

The african black soap skin care collection includes the following key ingredients:

African Black Soap that clarifies oily, blemish prone skin.

Bamboo Charcoal that absorbs oil and impurities to help detoxify skin.

Aloe that soothes and nourishes skin.

African Black Soap Acne Prone Face & Body Bar

I’m not a big fan of african black soap by share moisture because its not authentic african black soap. So I have not used this product on my face or body. But I do use it help wash my make up brushes and skincare tools. The bamboo charcoal ingredient is meant to detoxify the skin. So, I figured if it detoxifies skin then it can detoxify my brushes.

African Black Soap Clarifying Facial Wash & Scrub

I have incorporated this product into my Sunday self care routine and part of my weekly routine. It is gentle and soft enough on the skin that I don’t think it would cause any micro tears. The only thing I don’t like about the product is it burning my eyes. lol! I was having too much fun scrubbing my face and got too close to my eyes. When I went to wash try face my eyes were on fire.

African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal Detoxifying Foaming Facial Wash

I love that this product is sulfate free. It makes it so that my skin is not dry feeling after finishing. I have alternated my micellar gel cleanser for this product as a daily cleanser in the shower. It has a wonderful minty smell and tingling feeling that lets me know it working.

The 100% Virgin Coconut Oil skin care collection includes the following key ingredients:

Organic Raw Shea Butter that deeply moisturizes with vitamins and essential fatty acids.

Coconut Oil/ Coconut Milk Blend with conditioning properties to help smooth and soften skin.

Acacia Senegal that seals in moisture.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Face Lotion

I have never used a face lotion before and don’t think this is a product I would purchase on own. But I have being enjoying it. Now that the cold weather is starting to kick in this face lotion is great for a morning refresh. I have a daily mositurizer that I use daily. But for the past 2 weeks I have used this face lotion as a morning refresher. I like that it doesn’t make my skin hot and sweaty as I get ready for my day.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Hydration Overnight Face Oil

Now, I am in love with this product. I have exchanged my old product for this one for daily nightly use. It really helps restore my skin overnight so I don’t wake up looking and feeling crusty. I love that oil is light weight with no smell. It doesn’t irritate my skin at all and hydrates my skin well.

100% Virgin Coconut Oil Daily Glow Priming Moisturizer

This moisturizer is bomb. Before receiving this product I was using the Glow Getter Moisturizer. But since receiving this priming moisturizer I have enjoyed the healthy looking glow it gives my skin.

Special shouts outs to my bestie for having a self care night with me and trying these products with me.

Passionista Seymone | The Natural Hair Journey

Meet Passionoista Seymone ….

Hello Passionista’s! My name is Seymone Jackson, born in Oahu, Hawaii but raised in Miami, FL. I am a Wife and a Mommy to a 4-month old baby boy, the 2 loves of my life. Who would’ve thought, someone who had no interest in having kids in high school, now has a son… funny right?! i grew up always changing my mind as to what I wanted to be when I grew up. My first interest was becoming a pediatrician, but then that quickly changed when I learned how long you would have to go to school for. By the time I got to college, I was in-between Nursing and Criminal Justice, which neither did not pan out as planned, because I only went to college for a little over a year and then I basically dropped out.

Getting into my Natural Hair Journey, I decided to do the “Big Chop” June 25, 2018, which came after unintentionally transitioning for a little over a year. I say unintentionally because when I was relaxed, it got to the point where even the most potent relaxer wouldn’t take to my thick, coarse hair. In the beginning of my natural hair journey, it was a bit difficult because working in management, for a large home improvement company, I was always face to face with customers, but most did not take to my “Natural Hair” in a positive manner. I got all kinds of weird looks, I was even dismissed by a few customers because it did not come off “professional” enough for my title. Fortunately, January 11, 2019 I was able to move forward from that job and never look back to a standard 9-5 again.

This time last year, if you would have said “Seymone, don’t worry about that Assistant Store Manager position, focus on working for yourself”, I would have probably looked at you crazy. i say that because how I was raised, getting a solid job, that pays well, with a 401k was ideal. Now, I am a full-time entrepreneur, working for myself and i’m glad I took the risk and followed God’s path He has paved for me. I decided to take all the negativity I experienced in the beginning of my natural hair journey and turn it into inspiring/motivating different kinds of women who are looking for guidance on their own journey. My testimony is more than just experiences, it’s someone else’s push to go for and do what it is they may be holding themselves back from.

You can follow my journey through my Youtube channel at youtube.com/SeymoneJ . You can also follow me on Instagram & Twitter @ iconiicbeauty .

Passionista Quiauna | Happy Healthy Queen

Hello! Meet Passionista, Quiauna…

Coming to terms with the fact that it’s time to get more serious about sharing my journey and helping others with their weight loss goals was definitely a rough road. I
swear sometimes I would sit in disbelief like I’m really passionate about helping others as my life was changed because someone to help me but I am scared to give myself to the world. I remember praying over and over for God to give me strength to not eat the house down. I think back to the many jobs I’ve had and with each job I can associate a time where I shared my desire to lose weight with a new co worker or management. I remember rushing from work to make it to Zumba. At over 300lbs I remember always being the heaviest one in P90x class or Insanity and I also remember never feeling less than. Ive always pushed myself to get the work done physically but I could never get my nutrition aligned long enough to keep the weight off.

Winning a scholarship for Lisa Smiths black health academy coupled with me getting weight loss surgery was definitely a life changer for me. The academy’s plant based curriculum taught me soooo much about food, manly the nutrients in food that we need to fuel  our bodies. I learned things about different diets that doctors would never want us to know. Things like how meat and dairy are not a necessary part of anyone’s diet in order to live a happy healthy life. I explored different diets and with cutting red meat and decreasing my dairy intake and of course keeping up my exercise regimen, I have lost right at 100lbs in a little over a year!  Now I’m at a point where I must share my journey with the world and I’m terrified.

Every time I’ve tried to just lose my weight in peace God moves and shows me that I’m a messenger and my story is meant to be heard! I’m currently in the process of launching my transformation program HappyHealthyQueens, where I plan to give the assistance that was given to me by a black queen to black queens.

I’m excited as I move through my journey and I can’t wait to help change many lives as my life continue to evolve and I grow closer and closer to exuding all the characteristics of a Happy Healthy Queen.
