Blogmas Day 9 | 5 Places to work and chill in Atlanta

Happy Blogmas, Passionista!

I live in Atlanta, GA where there are so many cool places to hang out and explore. As a business-women and blogger bae, I find that I am more productive when I go out to a coffee shop or lounge to get some “real” work done.

Today I’m going to share with you some of my favorite places to go to work, chill and enjoy peace.

Starbucks

There’s a Starbucks on just about every corner in the city. I’m lucky enough to live across the street from one. When I want to have a workday or a quick meeting I go to Starbucks. I can knock out a lot of work at Starbucks rather than sitting on my sofa getting distracted by everything in my apartment.

This cute coffee shop is a new one I recently discovered. It’s a great place to have a work date with your favorite Boss Bae. There are 2 locations in Atlanta, one in Buckhead and another near Ponce City Market. The Ponce location is my favorite (pictured) they have an outside seating area with swings. I have literally sat in the place for 6 hours straight planning content and working on my weekly to-do list.

Ponce City Market

Ponce City Market is such a beautiful place with so much to do. You can eat, shop, network, and work. The second level of the building has cafe seating, perfect for you to disconnect from the madness and answer a few emails. I actually did my very first branded blog photoshoot at Ponce City Market this summer.

Piedmont Park & Morgan Falls Park

I find the park to be the best place to go to destress, clear your head, and think of new creative ideas. As much as I love a picnic in the park, I enjoy just sitting in the park with a notepad and pen to just write. Journal my thoughts and feelings or jot down the many ideas running through my head. I’ve found it to be the best way to spend some quality alone time.

Whole Foods

Just like Starbucks, Whole Foods is a great place to dine and work. Atlanta has a new Whole Foods location that has a rooftop. The rooftop is equipt with games, a concession stand, and dining tables. This is the perfect place to have a small group meeting to grab some food while getting some work done on a beautiful rooftop.

TELL ME, where do you go to get work done or just relax?

Blogmas Day 6 | Equipment I Use To Blog

Hello Passionista!

Blogging takes a lot of work. When you are a 1 women show you need equipment and tools to help make the process easier. Over the years, I have tried many different things, but I feel like I’m at a great space of creative resources now. If this world was mine and I had my way, I would have a photographer and videographer do all my images, videos, and editing. But, until I make it big and have the budget to have a fully staffed tech team for my blog and brand I do it all \AZmyself.

The main equipment I used for creating images for a blog or social media post is a tripod and ring light. I have 3 different types of tripods, they all work just about the same. I’ve just collected multiples over the years.

50 Inch Aluminum Tripod

12 Inch Flexible Tripod

50 Inch Universal Tripod

I use the 12 inch flexible tripod for hand held projects or when I’m sitting at my desk vlogging or taking pictures. Most of time I use the universal tripod for indoor and outdoor timers. These tripods make it easy to take pictures and video on your phone. I use the timer on the photo app or sometimes a bluetooth clicker.

The newest tool I’ve added to my inventory is a ring light. I was looking for a low cost solution, so I purchased this one from Facebook market for $15.00. It works perfect and has improved the quality of my photos.

Some of my digital resources are Canva, Abode Lightroom, Mojo, and Hootsuite. If you are thinking about starting a blog but concern about how you would do it. My advice to you is to just start. There are so many free tools and resources write at your fingertips with your smartphone. I have been blogging for 4 years and use my iPhone to take all pictures and record video. One day I’ll be able to add a professional camera to my inventory. But until then my iPhone 8 Plus is working perfectly. (Maybe Santa will bring me a iPhone 11 Pro, lol ).

To all my fellow blogger, TELL ME: What equipment and resources are you using to create content?

Blogmas Day 5 | Winter Bucket List

Hello Passionista!

It is day 5 of blogmas!!!! Ya girl is still hanging in there and still ahead of the game.

A lot of the content I have prepared and created for blogmas is a repeat of the topics I’ve blogged about in past blogmas posts. But I noticed that I haven’t made a holiday or winter bucket list since 2016. So here is my winter bucket list:

This year I decided to keep my list short and sweet, because I have plans to do every single thing on this list. Since winter is my favorite time of year, there are lots of activities that I want to do with my family and friends. I’m like the lifestyle coordinator. So I’ll make a plan and let everyone know the plan and have some fun. Most of the time my family and friends are down for my little creative plans, it makes for the best quality time.

What I’m looking forward to the most is a movie day in PJs. I want to lay in bed with snacks and hot coco all day and do nothing but watch all the movies I’ve added to my Amazon Prime watch list. What’s on your winter bucket list?

Passionista Seymone | The Natural Hair Journey

Meet Passionoista Seymone ….

Hello Passionista’s! My name is Seymone Jackson, born in Oahu, Hawaii but raised in Miami, FL. I am a Wife and a Mommy to a 4-month old baby boy, the 2 loves of my life. Who would’ve thought, someone who had no interest in having kids in high school, now has a son… funny right?! i grew up always changing my mind as to what I wanted to be when I grew up. My first interest was becoming a pediatrician, but then that quickly changed when I learned how long you would have to go to school for. By the time I got to college, I was in-between Nursing and Criminal Justice, which neither did not pan out as planned, because I only went to college for a little over a year and then I basically dropped out.

Getting into my Natural Hair Journey, I decided to do the “Big Chop” June 25, 2018, which came after unintentionally transitioning for a little over a year. I say unintentionally because when I was relaxed, it got to the point where even the most potent relaxer wouldn’t take to my thick, coarse hair. In the beginning of my natural hair journey, it was a bit difficult because working in management, for a large home improvement company, I was always face to face with customers, but most did not take to my “Natural Hair” in a positive manner. I got all kinds of weird looks, I was even dismissed by a few customers because it did not come off “professional” enough for my title. Fortunately, January 11, 2019 I was able to move forward from that job and never look back to a standard 9-5 again.

This time last year, if you would have said “Seymone, don’t worry about that Assistant Store Manager position, focus on working for yourself”, I would have probably looked at you crazy. i say that because how I was raised, getting a solid job, that pays well, with a 401k was ideal. Now, I am a full-time entrepreneur, working for myself and i’m glad I took the risk and followed God’s path He has paved for me. I decided to take all the negativity I experienced in the beginning of my natural hair journey and turn it into inspiring/motivating different kinds of women who are looking for guidance on their own journey. My testimony is more than just experiences, it’s someone else’s push to go for and do what it is they may be holding themselves back from.

You can follow my journey through my Youtube channel at youtube.com/SeymoneJ . You can also follow me on Instagram & Twitter @ iconiicbeauty .

Passionista Quiauna | Happy Healthy Queen

Hello! Meet Passionista, Quiauna…

Coming to terms with the fact that it’s time to get more serious about sharing my journey and helping others with their weight loss goals was definitely a rough road. I
swear sometimes I would sit in disbelief like I’m really passionate about helping others as my life was changed because someone to help me but I am scared to give myself to the world. I remember praying over and over for God to give me strength to not eat the house down. I think back to the many jobs I’ve had and with each job I can associate a time where I shared my desire to lose weight with a new co worker or management. I remember rushing from work to make it to Zumba. At over 300lbs I remember always being the heaviest one in P90x class or Insanity and I also remember never feeling less than. Ive always pushed myself to get the work done physically but I could never get my nutrition aligned long enough to keep the weight off.

Winning a scholarship for Lisa Smiths black health academy coupled with me getting weight loss surgery was definitely a life changer for me. The academy’s plant based curriculum taught me soooo much about food, manly the nutrients in food that we need to fuel  our bodies. I learned things about different diets that doctors would never want us to know. Things like how meat and dairy are not a necessary part of anyone’s diet in order to live a happy healthy life. I explored different diets and with cutting red meat and decreasing my dairy intake and of course keeping up my exercise regimen, I have lost right at 100lbs in a little over a year!  Now I’m at a point where I must share my journey with the world and I’m terrified.

Every time I’ve tried to just lose my weight in peace God moves and shows me that I’m a messenger and my story is meant to be heard! I’m currently in the process of launching my transformation program HappyHealthyQueens, where I plan to give the assistance that was given to me by a black queen to black queens.

I’m excited as I move through my journey and I can’t wait to help change many lives as my life continue to evolve and I grow closer and closer to exuding all the characteristics of a Happy Healthy Queen.

Passionista Paris| The Passion of Paris

Hello Passionista! Meet Paris Holmes …

Paris Holmes also known as “Paris Jaa” is a freelance writer from South Carolina who enjoys sharing her unique visions with the world. She’s currently located in the Atlanta area building her brand as a screenwriter, blogger, and poet across the city. Growing up as an only child gave Paris plenty of time alone to run wild with her imagination. At the age of eight, she began to write poetry, short stories, stage plays, etc. Once her pieces begin to grasp the attention of others, she decided to transform her passion into a full blown career.

The passion I have for word play runs deep! “Theseee words are my own, from my heart flow, I love you… I love you… I love you… I love youuuu!”, just like Natasha Bedingfield expressed in her hit song is exactly how I feel about writing! I picked up the pen at the age of eight in my spare time which I had a lot of because I was an only child. Being the youngest of the family, I was surrounded by many adults feeling as if I had no voice. Because the paper listened, writing became ya girl’s best friend! Through words I am able to duplicate my imagination in a creative form! I see the world differently than the normal eye therefore, as a storyteller I hold a gift to create twists that jolt the mind of others. It’s such a beautiful thang yall! Writing poetry, screenplays, and blogs is the honey that sets my cup of tea just right!

Growing up, I wrote short stories for fun and shared them with my closest friends. The stories kept them all intrigued and they were anxious for what would happen next. This went on for a while until I allowed an outsider to read and was asked why’d I not turn my short stories into short films? I had no clue why, although the ideas originally came from my dreams anyway so this made perfect sense. People would now be able to capture my visions with the human eye!? whatttt! How explosively exciting!! Without thinking I dived head first into screenwriting. I shadowed other film makers, conducted auditions for actors, and even attended a 5 week screenwriting course where I won 4th place in a pitch contest. I wrote, produced, and directed two short films which are now on YouTube,  “Transitions” and “True Colors”. Whenever the production process became a bit lengthy, I needed a way to release my everyday emotions. The ones that I wasn’t ready to show and tell at the moment. This lead me to write poetry. Poetry became a coping mechanism and still to this day is therapy for me. I’ve never felt a relief so gratifying once I lay the pen down from expressing my true feelings on paper! It was absolutely shocking to see how others related so well, after finally gaining the courage to share some of my most vulnerable pieces on social media.

Blogging hit my writing world quicker than a slap to the face! I honestly didn’t see this amazing blessing coming! I knew a friend who knew a friend that blogged for a fashion website. Word got out about my dedication and the passion I have for writing and WHOOP DERE IT IS! I was blogging for a fashion site which was amusing, animated, and glittery! I had the ability to exercise my word play by uniquely describing the colors, shapes, and designs I saw in fashion and how they made me feel. My blog samples later landed me my very own opinion column in a upcoming magazine expressing my thoughts towards serious topics. I finally got the green light to let my hair down and tell it like it is! Extremely intense but breath taking!

I must admit, there have been times where I thought writing may not work in my best interest as far as a career goes. But at the doorstep of my heart the words always knock as a reminder. I can’t allow life issues to distract me from what’s destined because this love runs too deep! Instead, create a banging story, movie, or poem from all experiences and continue to manifest my dreams by moving forward. God gave me visions for a reason, so they must be told!
