Work spaces and Creative spaces

Hey Passionista!

I don’t know about you but I’m sick of working from home- in my home. Let me explain!

I have been full time entrepreneur, running a business from the comfort of my home for over a year now. As a creative entrepreneur my work allows me to be out of the house for most of my projects. Pre-pandemic a typical day for me was working a few hours at a coffee shop, on-site meeting with clients, running errands and shopping for events. Since March I’ve mostly been in the house. At first it was cool then Summer came around and things start to feel different for me. I just want to go to my favorite coffee shop, pick a nice spot by the window and bust out some work for a couple of hours of my day. Now I’m having to be extremely creative about how and where I work.

Since outside has opened back up a little bit, I now get the opportunity to take onsite meetings again. But my admin day to day tasks are still being done from my home. It’s annoying sitting the house all day- in the same spot. So this week I tried to get a little creative with my work space for a day. I decided to work outside at the Botanical Gardens (in Athens, GA). I took my notebook, laptop and book to the garden to quietly get some work done and soak up the cool breeze and sunlight. Now I’m not normally a outdoor person but it felt good to work outside for a few hours.

I even had time sit on a bench a read a few pages from the book HER by Pierre Jeanty.

Now I’m on a quest to find even more creative spaces that will get me out of the house to do some work. Hopefully this seasonal weather will allow me to explore more outdoor places.

Before you go, share with me other outdoor places you go to work, relax, or read a book.

Falling in love with Fall

Hey Passionista!

Fall is here!!!! This is my favorite time of year. I cannot wait to pull out my cardigans, wraps, and boots. I personally think that my fall wardrobe is AMAZING and comfortable.

Fall has always felt so good and so full of love. It’s not too hot yet not too cold. There so many seasonal things to do and enjoy with your loved ones. Don’t get wrong the rest of the year is lit too, but FALL is my season.

As I was preparing this blog I took a scroll down memory lane of my Pinterest boards and my personal stash of photos I’ve never posted. I smiled as I thought about the time I randomly called up my girls to meet me at Piedmont park for a lunch and THEY came. I was crying laughing thinking about the time I got my friends to go to Southern Bell farm for a campfire, I can’t explain how unexpected the chain of events from that day turned out to be. I have soooooo many cabin pictures because both my family and friends loves to take a good cabin trip to the mountains to get away and have some quality time.

This year I’m not letting this pandemic ruin my favorite season. I’m just going to find ways to work with this pandemic to safely enjoy all the wonderful things about fall and the traditional activities I enjoy.

Although I’m crafty all the time. I find myself creating some really stuff during this time. Like this table latern I made of out items found that the dollar tree.

But my favorite thing to do during this season is plan family photoshoot with my family. It feels good to look back over the years and see how much my family has changed. GROWTH is real, y’all !

Happy Fall!!!!

Before you go, tell em you favorite thing to do in fall?

Are you taking care of yourself?

Hey Passionista!

Can you believe it’s the end of August? Seems like time is flying by so quickly and most of my time has been spent in the house this year. I haven’t felt my toes in beach sand all year… and that just ain’t right!!!

My days seems to be full of work, WERK, work and more work. Even though I’m in house out of the time (due to COVID-19), I find myself being more busy now than I’ve ever been before. There always seems to be some project to coordinate, e-mails to send, and ideas to plan. For instance, this week I started planning for my annual Self Care November and Blogmas. It’s never too early to start planning in my mind, but I easily let these things consume me and my time.

I want to be more intentional about taking care of my mind, body and soul- and encourage y’all to do the same. Here are 7 things you can do to take care of yourself.

  1. Drink Water!

Drinking water helps improve your memory and mood, reduces headaches and migraines, and prevents other health issues like kidney stones, dehydrations and bladder infections.

My motto is, ” Drink your water and mind your business” lol

2. Meditate

Meditation is a great way to control anxiety. Lately, I find myself getting anxious more than ever before which makes it hard to meditate sometimes. But I continue to try to meditate and take 5 minutes out of my day to just relax. You deserve your 5 minutes !!!

3. Journal

I love to write (One of the main reasons why I started this blog). I find joy in writing my journal everyday, either in the morning or right before bed. Journaling can help you control your mood and attitudes by tracking your thoughts, feelings and fears.

4. Reward Yourself

Celebrate the little victories from day to day. During things times achieving any goals is big deal!!! This can help boost your self confidence and also help maintain healthy habits.

5. Get Dressed Up

I’ve fell off with getting dressed up. I’m always in lounge clothes or oversized t-shirts because there is no where to go, unless I’m running to the store or going to visit a friend. But I have found getting dressed up one day a week to brighten up my mood.

6. Facetime A Friend

This pandemic is truly hard for people like me who are extrovert and love being social and being around people. On Friday nights, I get sad thinking about the plans I could of made. I’m that girl that usually ALWAYS has plans, especially on the weekends. So now I just make FaceTime dates. I love the group FaceTime feature. I can sit on FaceTime with my friends all night playing games, drinking and talking shit. LOL!

7. Pray

Talk to God! You shouldn’t need a reason to call him. Just talk to God, simple.

Before you go… check out these cute pics I took this past Sunday when I decided to get out the house for some blog pictures.

Wear Your Testimony

Hey Passionista-

Today I have a story to share. I pride myself in keeping 80% of my “personal” business detached from my blog, my business, and social media. I just feel like some stuff should remain personal. So the content that I create and the work I do is what I share, my personal life is off limits….. PERIOD!

But today I am going to open up to y’all in a way I don’t think I have done before on the blog. Thank you to Testimony Clothing Brand for encouraging me to- wear my testimony and share my testimony.

Testimony clothing brand is on a mission to speak conversations that unite communities and bring radical improvements in the areas of mental health and social equality.

2020 has been a year, and it’s only August. I can’t say it’s been a bad year. I can say God has been good to me. For years, I have had entrepreneurial aspirations but I didn’t have faith in myself to just do start the business. So I went to college and started a career in Corporate America, working for someone else doing the same things I wanted to build a business doing for myself. My degree and Corporate America became my safety net even before actually obtaining the degree or getting my first job. Throughout college (undergrad and grad school) I would tell myself, “I’m putting in the work now to get my dream job later” but a corner office owned by someone else is not my dream job. A corner office with an amazing skyline view that’s owned and operated by me is my aspiration.

May 2019, I was laid off my job for the 2nd time in my overall 6 year career in Corporate America. The first time I got laid off from a job, I was in a panic and feared for my future. But this time I felt so much peace after being laid off. Honestly I slept better and I felt better. Yet I had no plan. My time and funds were limited but I knew I had to make something shake. I spent days trying to wrap my head around running an business, making enough money to maintain on my own, and provide a service that has a great impact on small businesses. My business The Passion Palette serves small business owners who do not have a fully staffed marketing team. I offered project based marketing services and event planning to small businesses in the Atlanta area or virtually across the nation. Honey, running a business is not for the weak! I have made so many mistakes, probably making a few new ones as I write this blog, but I am learning. God has placed me in the season to learn, grow and flourish. If someone had told me I’d be a full time entrepreneur, sort of winging it day by day this time last year, I would have laughed in their face and told them they were tripping.

It’s been a little over a year and in the midst of a pandemic my business is thriving. And it’s all because I let go of my fear and started believing in myself and putting all my faith in God. I am learning everyday and on a path to becoming a better me. I know there are still some bad and good days ahead but I have faith. This season has taught me to be grateful and stay focused. A lesson that I could of and should of learned long ago, but God works in the most blissful ways.

Today, I am a full time entrepreneur learning to push through being uncomfortable with life’s circumstances and having faith in God’s promise. My testimony is not complete, I am living through it right now. But I growing and learning every day. I’m thankful for these times.

Purchase your Testimony tee and share your story!

God Bless These 20 Somethings

Hey Passionista-

Tomorrow is my birthday !!!!!! 29 laps around the sun and I’m so blessed. As I get even closer to 30, I think about my younger self and how I imagined my life would be. I can’t believe I actually thought I would be married with kids by 25. Knowing what I know now and the experiences this journey called life has brought me the thought of that is almost laughable. Don’t get me wrong, I still want those things … but the fact that I used to put age labels on life achievements is just laughable.

For my birthday I’m going to gift y’all with 10 things my 20’s have taught me.

Have a grateful heart.

Have faith over fear.

Believe in yourself or don’t expect others to believe in you either.

Live for today, because tomorrow is not promised.

Don’t let ANYTHING or ANYONE disturb your peace.

Some people are seasonal. When some one shows you who they are, BELIEVE THEM. And move on.

Everybody is not your friend, so cherish genuine friendships and relationships, because they are rare and hard to come by these days.

A set back is a set up for a comeback. It’s all a process!

Sow a seed, watch it grow! #PERIODT

Invest in others! Invest in yourself! Invest in your community! Invest in Stock!

Most importantly, be the person you want in your life !!!!

Before you go, tell me something your 20’s taught you. If you’re reading this and your not 20 yet- bless your heart!

XoXo

How I plan monthly content for the blog & social media

Hey Passionista-

If you’ve been following me on social media I have expressed how I’ve been struggling with creating content lately. I used to be so on top of my game with creating content and being consistent with creating and scheduling blog post and social media posts. I was really starting to see growth in both my website subscribers and social media platforms. But life happens! My business started growing and my blog suffered. Now I’ve been struggling to find ways to remain consistent between my blog and my business, because both of them at lacking right now.

So, I am taking a different approach and holding myself accountable for the following practices.

  1. Making blogging and being a influencer a Lifestyle and not a hobby.
  2. Scheduling time for planning and preparing.
  3. Do everything with the same passion an drive I had when I launched Passionlocked.com

Now, I’m going to need y’all help to keep me accountable as well. that’s why I am letting y’all know this.

Here is how I plan to prepare my monthly content for the blog and social media

  • Review my brand deals, sponsorships, and collaborations and fill my calendar with dates that these things need to be posted.
  • Fill in other dates with natural hair, skincare, DIY or lifestyle content
  • Schedule 2 dates a month to shoot sponsored content
  • Schedule weekly time blocks to prepare and edit blogs and social media posts

To make things easier on me I started a blogging journal to write all of my blog ideas, grows, rates and track my growth. Up until now I’ve been using my notes app on my phone to jot down things as I think of them.

Even tho I have a editorial calendar, I bought a calendar so that I am able to write out my schedule for blogging, deadlines and photoshoots and hang it in a place that I will see everyday as daily reminders.

I’ve decided to switch my scheduling app from Hootsuite to Later, because Later seems to be a bit more functional and has more features I need for creating content.

August is the 1st month I will be applying these steps and new strategy. Wish me luck!

Face Masks Are My New Accessory

Hey Passionista!

I often struggle to keep up with my keys and wallet, now I have to add face masks to the list. Face masks are our new accessory. I’m NOT going outside without a mask on my face to protect me. With us still not knowing the facts about coronavirus, I think we all should be required to wear a mask outside of the house until someone provided honest and factual details about Coronavirus.

Be let’s be honest, wearing a face mask is something you definitely have to get used to. You really have to switch up your entire normal routines to accommodate our new normal. Just yesterday, I got in my car to go to the show and pulling out the driveway I realized I didn’t have my phone or face mask. Of course I had to turn around to get both items.

With face masks being the new normal, let’s talk about how to care for your skin.

#1 Don’t wear make up with your face mask.

Wearing a face mask creates moisture. If you’ve worn a face mask longer than 10 to 15 minutes you know what I mean. If you are wearing make up on your face that moisture can result to clogging your pores cause breakouts.

#2 Add essential oils to a coffee filter to put inside you mask to help you breathe

Breathing while wearing a face mask can be challenging depending on the type on face mask you are wearing. Wearing glasses can even be challenging when wearing a face mask. One thing I’ve started doing is using a coffee filter with a few drops of Lavender essential oils to help soothe my breathing process while wearing the face mask. After using it once I trash the coffee filter and use a fresh one during the next usage.

#3 Wash your face with clean hands after every time you wear a mask

You should be washing your face just as much as your are washing your hands. Each time you remove your face mask you should wash you hands, then wash your face to cleanse your face of any bacteria build up.

#4 Wash your mask after each use

Please don’t wear the same mask over and over again with out washing it. I have started collecting face masks. I make it a habit to wash each face mask after every use. I may use 1 or 2 per day. You can hand wash them soap and hot water then hang them to dry.

#5 Get some vitamin D

Be sure to still give your skin the vitamin D it needs. I like to take a walk around my yard daily to get some Vitamin D for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Stay safe, see you next week!

XOXO

7 Self-Care Practices During This Quarantine Season

Hey Passionista!

COVID-19 has shocked us all. I never thought the 1st 100 days of 2020 would turn out like this. But I’m not canceling 2020 goals, plans, and ideas. Yes, this is a road block on the journey but it doesn’t define anything.

2020 is still lit. Dreams are still coming true in 2020. Businesses are still being started in 2020. The vibes and the energy is still going to be great for 2020 overall. Don’t let this situation stress or depress you. Here are 7 self care practices that have really came in handy for me during this time.

#1 Drink Water

Try adding some natural flavors to your water. Lately, I’ve been enjoying cucumber and mint leaves in my water. If you’re a citrus person, try adding some lemons and lime. Pinterest is a great source to finding infused water recipes.

#2 Have a warm cup of tea or coffee

All of my healthcare friends have been telling me to drink something warm everyday. Apparently it helps strengthen your respiratory system. I’m a tea lover over coffee. so I start my morning with some Yogi Tea. The green tea blend is my favorite because its a natural source of energy.

#3 Take your vitamins

Make sure you are getting your daily dose of vitamin C or a multi- use vitamin to nourish your body.

#4 Get some fresh air

Even though we are under quarantine, its helpful to take a walk outside at least once a day. Smell the fresh air and allow your skin to get some vitamin D.

#5 Spend some time offline

If you’re like me and you are working from home, spending time away from your computer and phone will help you maintain your self wellness.

#6 Practice healthy eating habits

It’s easy to just snack all day when you’re just sitting at home. Try making a weekly menu for 3 meals a day and snacks in between each meal. This will help you control your sweets intake.

#7 Get a hobby or learn a new skill

This is the best time to try new things and learn a new skill. Each week I use YouTube to try a new DIY project.

Most importantly, enjoy this time with yourself!
