Family Holiday Photoshoot

Hey Passionista!

One of my favorite things to do to kickoff the holiday season is to take pictures with my family. About 4 years ago I realized I didn’t have many family portraits. When I was little I remember getting dressed up and going to Sears to take holiday pictures that my mom would share with the family in our Christmas card. Well as I started to get older, for some reason we stopped taking family photos. So, I planned a family photoshoot for my extended family. I look forward to our Christmas photoshoot every year. We create some really funny memories during each photoshoot, and we create some real dope pictures too.

Here are 5 tips to help you plan a family photoshoot for the holidays

#1 Pick a color scheme.

The color scheme is important. You can either choose for everyone to wear the same thing, or select a color scheme. When you are dealing with more the 3 or 4 people, I highly suggest a color scheme for every to stick to. That way everyone can choose what’d like to wear, be comfortable, and show their personality. Pinterest has really good color scheme templates/ inspiration for group photoshoots.

For our pictures this year we decided on Yellow, Red, and Denim. In the past we have wore, Green and Tan; shades of Purple.

#2 Find the perfect location for your family.

Location is everything!!!! Keeping in mind your family dynamic when selecting your photoshoot location and be creative. There are parks, farms, shopping centers, and city skylines. Try googling “Top places for a photoshoot near me” you’ll be surprised at what you find.

Our family photo location this year was Prospect Farm in Lawrenceville, Georgia. I found this location from a google search that lead me to their Facebook page.

#3 Book a photographer.

A photographer who has experience working with a group of people instead of just one or two people is very important. If you have children in your family, you need a photographer who can work with children during a photoshoot. I personally like a photography team of 2 or more shooters, that why you can capture more moments in a hour long session. I really like to see the behind scene footage and candid shoots from a photoshoot.

As a blogger, I have a list of to go photographers. For my family and event photography, I always hire Vision of Life photography. They are a couple duo, so you have 2 shooters and they are very detailed oriented.

#4 Create a mood board on Pinterest.

Pinterest is the best app for you to find photoshoot inspiration. From poses and facial expressions to props and filters, Pinterest is the best. I highly suggest you create a mood board for your photoshoot before hand so you know exactly what type of shoots you want to get.

#5 Have Fun.

Photoshoots are meant to be fun and capture the great memories with your family. So, don’t be to serious. Just have fun. Create a fun atmosphere by play music that everyone can groove to during the photoshoot. Genuine happiness looks better than any planned smile in a photo.

Before you go, share one thing you like to do with your family during the holidays.

Holiday Advent Calendar for I Am Affirmations

Hey Passionista!

Welcome to Day 1 of Blogmas 2020.

I truly love the cheer and joy that the holiday season brings. It’s not all about gifts and giving, it’s something about the energy that the holiday season brings into my life each and every year filling my heart with a smile. So, I want to kickoff my blogmas journey this year with affirmations.

I read a post on Pinterest that said, “A beautiful day starts with a beautiful mindset”. I must be honest and admit that I’m not the most positive person first thing in the mornings. But I am trying to improve. One thing that really has helped me shift my way of thinking is affirmations and manifestation.

I found this DIY Advent Calendar at Hobby Lobby and came up with the bright idea to create a I Am Affirmation Advent Calendar for the holidays. Each section of the advent calendar will be filled with mints or chocolate and a I Am Affirmation. So every morning, I can wake up to a harmless piece of candy (lol) and a positive affirmation to set the tone for the day. So, follow me on Instagram and watch my stories to see what’s in store for each day.

Today’s “I am” Affirmation…

Before you go, tell me your favorite christmas memory.

Meet Passionista Phylicia Greene

Hello Passionista’s!

My name is Phylicia Greene and I am the content creator behind @Beyoutifulgreene on instagram, youtube, Facebook, and well as wordpress, which is my personal blog. I was born and raised in Miami FL, however, I just moved to Atlanta GA two months ago and I am mom to two beautiful girls.

Writing has always been my passion. I even went to school for it. Although I never finished, starting a blog was just something that made sense to me. Writing about what I was passionate about that surprisingly everyone shared interest in which was motherhood and natural hair. After having my blog for sometime I decided to make a youtube page also dedicated to natural hair and motherhood and that has been my passion ever since.

For as long as I can remember when I hit adulthood I could never keep a job, I always found myself hopping around because my passion just wasn’t there. So after having my second daughter, Summer, who was born prematurely my boyfriend and I decided that I should stay and work from home. So I took that opportunity to hit the ground running on my dream. I never returned back to the normal working world. I decided to put my all into what I love to do which was writing and making videos and it is with god’s blessing that I havent had to return back since. Now, I am a full time mompenure and with our current situation with COVID-19 I am a full time homeschooling mom and I love it. I am able to work my dream career as well as be with my kids full time, which can be exhausting and cause me to drink wine but the bonding experience is everything.!

Sometimes dropping everything and following your dreams can be scary, which can cause us to put it on hold or maybe not do it all but sometimes god throws you into the situation that causes you to just go for it because it is your time. I truly believe my daughter being born prematurely forced me to stay home in one spot to focus on what I truly love to do. If she wasn’t born prematurely I am positive after my 6 weeks maternity leave I would have just gone back to a job I hated. So follow your passion, the outcome will amaze you!

Meet Passionista Shundra of Brown Mommy Diary

Hi Passionista!

My name is Shundra and I am the blogger of Brown Mommy Diary. Nearly a few days after I had delivered a healthy baby boy, I found myself wondering how I could encourage and provide insight through my journey. This sparked my interest in starting a blog, because motherhood is NOT easy! Brown Mommy Diary is a space for transparency through the challenges of motherhood, but it is also a space to learn how to be your best self through self-care, fashion, and so much more.

I have heard countless times that when you become parents that you have to put your life on hold. Motherhood does not have to halt your life and I am here to show you that motherhood can be fun and enjoyable while still “slayin’ for the gawds”.

Yes, parenting is serious business, but a dose of fun makes everything worthwhile. This is why you will see my baby boy bouncing to the beat of music or a TikTok exposing my obsession of Target. I’m passionate about motherhood, but I’m also passionate about discovering my new self through this journey. I understand that motherhood is a lifestyle and it is my goal to make the transition of motherhood easier for others as they embark on this journey.

Meet Passionista Naturally Madisen

Hey Passionista’s!

My name is Madisen and I’m a Beauty and Lifestyle Blogger based in Charlotte, NC. I’m a proud dog mom and a full-time Content Creator. Growing up, writing was always a passion of mine. I enjoyed writing short stories and poems — my mind constantly had different ideas popping up and the best way for me to express those was through my writing.

Writing is therapeutic for me and I’m glad that I’ve been able to start my own blog, Naturally Madisen. I decided to start blogging when I transitioned to natural hair in 2018. I’ve always wanted my own website and played around with different ones in the past, however, I never kept up with them and ended up losing the motivation. I was determined to try again and document my journey for the world to see.

I love that I’ve been able to share my journey and educate women on how to care for natural hair. All of the nights I spent researching paid off! What started out as a hobby has now become a source of income for me. The fact that I can wake up every day and do something I’m passionate about is amazing. I hope my story encourages other women to just go for it. Don’t second guess yourself. You have something unique to offer and your experiences will resonate with someone.

As I continued to grow my blog and social media platforms, I expanded the purpose of my brand and started discussing clean beauty, skincare, and wellness. All of these topics tied in perfectly and I’m glad I incorporated other parts of my life into my content. I also share tips for upcoming Bloggers/Content Creators because I want to see everyone win. I was clueless at the beginning of my journey and wish I had some guidance. Now that I’ve gained more experience, I don’t mind sharing the strategies that have helped me build my brand.

My community, also known as Maddy Squad, has been supportive and if it wasn’t for them, I’m not sure where I’d be! I love knowing that my content is helpful, inspiring, and providing value for other women. At the end of the day, I want to help others, put a smile on their face, and show them anything is possible.

Make sure you check out my blog NaturallyMadisen.com and follow me on Instagram: @naturally_madisen to keep up with me!

Spooky Season Activities

Hey Passionista!

My favorite time of year is slowly approaching. It first starts with Halloween. As a kid I wasn’t really into the whole dress up for Halloween thing. But over the last few years I have enjoyed dressing up with my friends and craving pumpkins.

I’m stuck between if I’m going to be a witch or little red riding hood for Halloween this year. While I’m still trying to figure out my costume idea, I decided to carving pumpkins and roast pumpkin seeds with my family.

Carving pumpkins with your family can be a really fun seasonal tradition. Last year I carved pumpkins with my friend. We made it into a Sip n’ Carve girl night. This year my brother and nephew joined me in pumpkin carving and seed roasting. We used a simple carving kit from Kroger to create our masterpieces.

Once we were done carving our pumpkins, I lit a small candle in each of them and sat them out on the front porch for display. Which is your favorite: The Cat or The Spider?

There’s nothing better than pumpkin bread or pumpkin seeds as the season starts to change. So I used the seeds from our craved pumpkins to roast for a snack after creating our spooky masterpieces. Here’s how I made my Cajun Spice Pumpkin seeds.

I’m still learning how to use TikTok so bare with my creativity. Before you go, what are you planning to be for Halloween?

Two Strand Twist with Mixed Chicks Styling Gel

Hey Passionista!

Y’all know my favorite go to protective style these days is a Twist set. I used to two strand twist my hair and let it air dry for a day then take it down for the curly look. But now, I just neatly twist my hair and wear the twist for a week or so as a protective style. Sometimes, I make the twist really small and other times I make them bigger. It’s truly a simple and easy way to keep my hair looking descent for days at a time when I don’t feel like touching my hair.

As a new ambassador for Mixed Chicks, I decided to try adding their Styling Gel to my twisting routine. My main goal is to make my twist look neat and last up to a week or until the next wash day. Normally, I don’t use gels in my hair ever… BUT this styling gel is fluffy and soft and adds texture to my curls. It’s really great for the ends of my twist to help seal the twist from coming undone over time.

Before you go, what products do you use when twisting your hair?

Work spaces and Creative spaces

Hey Passionista!

I don’t know about you but I’m sick of working from home- in my home. Let me explain!

I have been full time entrepreneur, running a business from the comfort of my home for over a year now. As a creative entrepreneur my work allows me to be out of the house for most of my projects. Pre-pandemic a typical day for me was working a few hours at a coffee shop, on-site meeting with clients, running errands and shopping for events. Since March I’ve mostly been in the house. At first it was cool then Summer came around and things start to feel different for me. I just want to go to my favorite coffee shop, pick a nice spot by the window and bust out some work for a couple of hours of my day. Now I’m having to be extremely creative about how and where I work.

Since outside has opened back up a little bit, I now get the opportunity to take onsite meetings again. But my admin day to day tasks are still being done from my home. It’s annoying sitting the house all day- in the same spot. So this week I tried to get a little creative with my work space for a day. I decided to work outside at the Botanical Gardens (in Athens, GA). I took my notebook, laptop and book to the garden to quietly get some work done and soak up the cool breeze and sunlight. Now I’m not normally a outdoor person but it felt good to work outside for a few hours.

I even had time sit on a bench a read a few pages from the book HER by Pierre Jeanty.

Now I’m on a quest to find even more creative spaces that will get me out of the house to do some work. Hopefully this seasonal weather will allow me to explore more outdoor places.

Before you go, share with me other outdoor places you go to work, relax, or read a book.
